This summary is for convenience; the numbered sections below are what apply.

1 What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. Sites can also keep data in your browser’s local or session storage. This policy calls both “cookies” and lists each one rankshark.io, the free audit and the panel at panel.rankshark.io use: its name, what it is for and how long it lasts. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data in general.

2 Necessary

These keep the site, the free audit and the panel working and secure. They are always on, need no consent and are not used for analytics or advertising.

3 Analytics

Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager on rankshark.io and on the panel’s account and billing pages, tells us how many people visit, where they come from and which pages they read, so we can improve the site. Google Tag Manager itself sets no cookies.

NameSet by, kindWhat it is forHow long
_gaGoogle Analytics, cookie on rankshark.io (shared with the panel)Tells one browser from another, so visitors are counted once.2 years
_ga_<id>Google Analytics, cookie on rankshark.io (shared with the panel)Keeps the state of your visit (its session), so pages are counted as one visit.2 years

Where consent is required, these are not set until you allow analytics.

4 Advertising

Advertising tags measure which of our ads lead to visits and orders.

NameSet by, kindWhat it is forHow long
_gcl_auGoogle tag, cookie on rankshark.ioLinks visits and orders to our ads (Google’s conversion linker).90 days
_gcl_aw, _gcl_gb, _gcl_dcGoogle tag, cookies on rankshark.ioRemember the ad click you arrived from, when you came from a Google ad.90 days
rs_attrrankshark.io, session storageThe campaign parameters of your visit (such as utm_source or gclid), added to the checkout link so the order is credited to the right ad. Cleared straight away if you turn advertising off.Until you close the tab

Where consent is required, none of these are set until you allow advertising. Google may also use its own cookies on its own domains (such as google.com), under Google’s cookie policy.

5 Where we ask first

If you visit from the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, or we cannot tell where you are, a cookie notice asks first, and analytics and advertising cookies stay off until you choose “Accept all” or allow them under “Choose”. “Reject all” keeps them off. Until you allow them, Google’s tags may send limited signals without cookies or identifiers, such as that a page was viewed. We ask again after 12 months.

Elsewhere, analytics and advertising run by default and you can turn them off at any time; a browser that sends a Global Privacy Control signal has advertising turned off. The log-in, sign-up and password pages never load analytics or advertising tags; in the panel, they load only on the account and billing pages, and your workspace never loads them.

6 Checkout and other sites

When you check out, the payment page and our store at dalga.dev set their own cookies to keep your basket and payment secure; their cookie notices explain them. Links to other sites, such as Google, are covered by those sites’ own policies.

7 Changing your choice

You can change or withdraw your choice at any time: . The same button is in the footer of every page.

Your browser can also block or delete cookies. Blocking necessary cookies on panel.rankshark.io stops you from signing in, and the free audit needs its cookie to start a scan.
