How the audit works.

Four steps, about three minutes from start to inbox.

  1. Pick your business

Find your business on the map by its name or its Google Maps link, pick it, move the grid if you want to check another area, then enter the keyword your customers search for.

  2. We scan a 7×7 grid

We run your search on Google Maps from each of 49 points laid out around your business, or where you placed the grid, and note where you appear.

  3. See the summary

In 1 to 3 minutes you see how many of the 49 points find your business.

  4. Get the full report

Enter your email and we send a private link to the map of every point, your metrics and your competitors.

What the report shows.

The same numbers RankShark Track reports for every scan, for one keyword and one moment.

Rank at every point
A 7×7 map with your position at each point, from 1 down to 20, and the points where you did not show up.
Found and top 3
How many of the 49 points show your business at all, and how many show it in the top 3, the places a searcher sees first.
Average rank (ARP)
Your average position across the points where you were found.
Share of local voice (SoLV)
The share of points where you rank 1 to 3.
Top competitors
The businesses that show up most across the same points, with their average rank and how many points find them.
What it means
A short reading of your grid in plain words.

About your data.

What the free audit keeps, and why.

To run a scan we keep the keyword, the business you choose and where you placed the grid, together with the country your connection comes from, which we work out from your IP address. The map opens on your approximate area, which our network provider estimates from your IP address; we use it only to show the map and do not keep it. When you ask for the report we keep your email address, and your name if you give it, to send you the report link. We only send you other emails if you tick the box on the form, and you can unsubscribe from them at any time.

To stop the free audit being overused, we set a cookie and check your IP address, so that each visitor can run one audit every 30 days. The cookie lasts a year; the IP address is kept only in a scrambled form.

RankShark is run by Dalga L.L.C. The Dalga privacy policy explains how we handle personal data and your rights; for questions, write to [email protected].

Free audit questions.

Is the audit really free?

Yes. There is no account and no card. To keep scans quick for everyone, each visitor can run one free audit every 30 days.

Can I check a different area than around my business?

Yes. Once you pick your business, drag the grid on the map, or tap the spot you want, to centre it up to 50 km away, for example on a neighbourhood you want customers from. Your business stays the one we look for at every point.

How is this different from searching Google Maps myself?

When you search, Google Maps ranks businesses for the spot you are searching from. The audit runs the same search from 49 points in a grid around your business, so you see the whole area instead of one spot.

How much can I read into one scan?

A scan is a snapshot of one moment. Rankings change from day to day, so treat it as a starting point; scans repeated over several weeks show the trend. RankShark Track runs them on a schedule.

What do you do with my email address?

We use it to send you the link to your report. We only send other emails if you tick the box on the form, and each one has an unsubscribe link.

Want the grid every week?

RankShark Track runs scans like this on a schedule for every client you manage, in Google Maps, Google Search, Bing Maps and Bing Search, with a grid for every competitor and the full history. Plans from $39 a month.
